Anyone dual enroll their children?

Homeschool parents who dual-enrolled their children: Did you find dual enrollment to be an overall positive experience, or did it create too much scheduling complexity? We have four kids, and I’d like for them to be able to receive instruction from other adults, but I don’t want to overpromise a schedule that I can’t keep up with. Thanks in advance for all responses.

We did our best for our girls based on where they were at any particular time. My personal belief is that a combination of homeschooling and traditional schooling was optimal for our kids.

With four Little Ones, scheduling will always be an issue, no matter what you do! 🙂

Our kids are older now (grad school) and sometimes Cindy and I talk about how we managed to deal with  all the craziness. All we have come up with is “you do what you have to do!”|

Parenting is the greatest joy! Good luck!

For us, the schedule was easier. Dual enrollment meant my daughter took her Spanish class through our local community college and I didn’t have to teach it. There was a bit of a struggle because we aren’t used to rigid schedules and she had to be at her class on time each week, but we just restructured our day to work around it. The other kids and I went to a park during that time and sometimes worked on their school work, sometimes had a picnic, and sometimes just played. I also used that time to run errands as there were specific stores that were closer to the college than our home. Yes! Awesome idea.

Two of my children took classes at the community college. Another child was able to enroll in the technology campus through the high school, without attending any other classes at the high school, and earned college credit that way. One semester of college = one full year of high school, so we were able to check off more things on our transcript! Just pay attention to your state laws on this. Some laws are more restrictive than others.
